CB Cameron Lewis (Buffalo) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

CB Cameron Lewis (Buffalo) Interview

Cameron Lewis
Cornerback
Buffalo

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Cameron Lewis:  Height is 5’9 ½, 185 and 4.44 forty last spring.  I am trying to run a 4.3.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Cameron Lewis:  Ultimate 48 Performance down in Lawrenceville, Georgia.  My roommate is from Georgia and he told me about this place.  They do a lot of pro day and combine training.  It is a small group of guys.  It is a big reason why I came down there.  We have about 10 or 11 people.  There is a lot of individual work.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the Tropical Bowl?

Cameron Lewis:  It was a pretty cool experience.  We practiced in front of 27 scouts.  It was weight lifted off my shoulders.

Alex Khvatov:  What did you want to show scouts at the all-star game?

Cameron Lewis:  That I can play inside and outside.  I have quick feet and good ball skills.  I wanted to show how physical I was.  I rolled an ankle during the last practice.  I have been icing ever since.  I didn’t play in the game.  I need to take a couple of days off.  I should be ready to go.  My pro day is on March 13th.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will take away from the Tropical Bowl?

Cameron Lewis:  Make the most of the opportunities.  Leave a good impression.  Perform when everyone is looking.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in
you?

Cameron Lewis:  Western Michigan, Toledo and Buffalo.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Buffalo?

Cameron Lewis:  Jeff Quinn was the coach at Buffalo at the time.  I got an offer from the 7 on 7 camp at Michigan State.  My brother went to Western Michigan.  He was a regular student there, so I didn’t want to go to the same school as him.  Toledo is only 45 minutes away from my home.  It was too close to home.  Buffalo campus sold me.  It was a summer time, and we have two handmade lakes.  I knew that I could play right away

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Cameron Lewis:  Physical, speed and pretty good ball skills.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Cameron Lewis:  I played both outside and inside.  But I need to focus on being patient in the slot.  Reading different formations and schemes.  I should be good at the next level.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Cameron Lewis:  Freshman year, I played on special teams a lot.  I made a lot of solid plays.  I also played in the nickel package.  I had a pick six my freshman year.  We went 5-7 that year.  I started all 12 games as an outside corner my sophomore year.  We went 2-10.  I had 60 tackles and eight PBU’s that year.  We had a good team my junior year.  We had all of the pieces.  I battled some injuries.  I broke my thump and forearm.  I played seven games that year.  I had an INT, about 30 tackles and a few PBU’s.  It was a solid year.  We went 6-6.  I ended up with three INT’s, nine PBU’s and 33 tackles.  I was second team all-conference.  We went 10-2, but lost in the conference championship game.  We blew a 19-point lead in the second half and lost by one point.  We also lost to Troy in the bowl game.  It was our first 10-win season in school history.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Cameron Lewis:  The 10-win season this year.  I made a lot of plays that senior year.  My highlight game was against Temple.  I had two INT’s and five tackles.  We got the win on the road.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Cameron Lewis:  Preparation is key.  You have to take preparation very seriously.  I break down the film and look at the tendencies.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Cameron Lewis:  I am from Detroit, I root for the Lions.  I root for them because they are my home team.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Cameron Lewis:  I like to watch Alvin Kamara and Todd Gurley.  Marshon Lattimore is someone I like to watch on defense.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a CB?

Cameron Lewis:  Confidence.  You play on an island.  It is the second hardest position, other than quarterback.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next
season?

Cameron Lewis:  CB Aapri Washington, RB Jaret Patterson, RB Kevin Marks and OLB James Patterson.  Those guys have a lot of potential in the next few years.  They were all freshmen.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Cameron Lewis:  Corey Davis.  They used him in a lot of ways.  Kenny Golladay from NIU was a tall and a lanky guy who can run.  He is a big target.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your teammate LB Khalil Hodge?

Cameron Lewis:  He is a great player and an even better teammate.  He is a sure tackler and always made the right calls.  Our defense was complicated, and he hardly ever was wrong.  He is a hard worker in football and in the classroom.  He is a great player and a great teammate.  He is very funny and a good guy.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Cameron Lewis:  The brotherhood you create behind it.  You build a lot of relationships with different people.  You have a common goal that brings people together.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your biggest role model and why?

Cameron Lewis:  My father.  He showed me the ropes.  He had a tough childhood.  His dad was killed when he was young.  He showed us a lot about struggle and told us that we need to grind for what you want.  You always give it 110%.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Cameron Lewis:  Being able to lead by example.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Cameron Lewis:  I am really family oriented.  I like to chill with my family and go to the movies.  I also have a girlfriend who I spend a lot of time with.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Cameron Lewis:  I want to pursue real estate.  My dad started a foundation for remodeling homes.  He has four or five properties.  I am starting to like it more and more.  I want to get a real estate license.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Cameron Lewis:  Passionate, hardworking, leader, coachable and faith.
