Derrick Baity Jr.
Cornerback
Kentucky
Ed Hunt: How did it feel out there during your Pro Day?
Derrick Baity Jr.: It felt good. Real fluid. I know I turned some heads during my drills and stuff like that.
Ed Hunt: Can you tell me what it was like to play in such a talented secondary? You pretty much have talent at every position.
Derrick Baity Jr.: I thought it was fun. I thought we brought out the best in each other. That’s what made us so talented. We competed against each other. We were at practice and saying like I’m going get more picks than you today. I think that’s what made us so successful.
Ed Hunt: What was it like having all the success that you had this year?
Derrick Baity Jr.: We heard the outside noise coming into the season. Like they are going to be average again. But we just shut it all out and we started doing what we were doing. The culture around here changed and stuff like that. With ourselves and with our team, we were just like this is what we were going to do. They started doing crazy things and it was fun.
Ed Hunt: What have teams told you will be your role in the NFL?
Derrick Baity Jr.: They told me I did really well today. I made myself some money especially during the position drills and stuff like that because I’m 6’2 and I still get in and out of my breaks like I’m 5’10. They told me like you can come in and play and we know you are a technician and it speaks for itself.
Ed Hunt: What was your 40 time today? What did the scouts tell you?
Derrick Baity Jr.: They said anywhere between a 4.56 and 4.59.
Ed Hunt: I’m noticing a trend with size and speed. Is that something coach looks for when recruiting his team?
Derrick Baity Jr.: I think that’s what they are doing now. And I think that’s what the NFL is definitely doing now because they had all four of us and three of our opponents all over six foot that can run. I think that’s the trend nowadays.
