WR Nsimba Webster (Eastern Washington) Interview

Nsimba Webster
Wide Receiver
Eastern Washington

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Nsimba Webster:  I am 5’9, 180 and I ran a 4.4 forty at Washington State’s Pro Day.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Nsimba Webster:  I was training at Landow Performance in Denver before my Pro Day.  Now I am training back at Eastern Washington.

Alex Khvatov:  Were you happy with the overall results from your Pro Day?  What were some of your numbers?

Nsimba Webster:  I was happy with my numbers.  I got a 6.7 in the three-cone.  I would have been number one out of all of the receivers at the Combine.  I had a 4.15 in the 20-yard shuttle, 10’1 in the broad jump and 31-inches in the vertical.  I attended two pro days back-to-back at Washington State and Eastern Washington.  I was catching passes from Gardner Minshew.   It was pretty good catching passes from him.  Minshew was looking for some wide receivers to throw to at his pro day and he hit me up.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Nsimba Webster:  I was a QB coming out of high school.  The recruiting was slow for me.  I started getting interest in the summer going into my senior year.  Sacramento State offered me as a QB.  During my senior campaign, Portland State and Cal Poly showed interest.  When the season ended, Eastern Washington contacted me and my brother.  They offered me on New Year’s Day of 2014.  Then San Jose State offered.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Eastern Washington?

Nsimba Webster:  I loved the facilities and the players.  It was a great football program nationally.  My brother and I decided to go there.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Nsimba Webster:  I bring energy.  I encourage my teammates.  Speed is my strength.  I run good routes and create separation.  I make big catches.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Nsimba Webster:  Creating more separation through the mental part of the game.  Setting guys up at the top of my route and using my body more.  Gaining more knowledge for the game.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Nsimba Webster:  I was an athlete coming in.  This is a receiver university.  They had Cooper Kupp and Kendrick Bourne.  I had to learn a new position.  It was tough at first.  I had a great coach.  He was patient with me.  I played special teams.  I was a returner the first two years.  I had to get the receiver aspect of things.  It was my turn to step up when Cooper Kupp left.  I have prepared myself pretty well.  My junior year, I was an all-conference player as an outside WR.  Senior year, I played in the slot.  I had a great year.  I was first team all-conference.  I was a 1,000-yard receiver.  I should have gotten all-American.  I watched a lot of film in order to master the position.  When Cooper Kupp was here, we lost on the last play in the national championship game.  We had a coaching change and didn’t make the playoffs my junior year.  Senior year, we faced a lot of injuries.  Young guys had to step up.  We made it to the championship game and lost to North Dakota State.  I had a great career.  I went through the whole process.  I was able to overcome the adversity.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Nsimba Webster:  Dealing with adversity.  Playing through an injury my senior year and making the best of it.  Fighting through the injury.  I played through the pain.  I played the entire season without missing any games.  I had tendinitis in both of my ankles.  I made myself perform in practice and in games.  I was training in the offseason, and it helped me recover a lot faster.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Nsimba Webster:  Getting my degree.  I was a communications major and got a minor in business.  I was the first college graduate in my family.  My brother also graduated.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you take a lot of pride in being a return specialist?

Nsimba Webster:  I do.  I was focused on it my first two years at Eastern Washington.  I am a football player.  Being a specialist is definitely a key thing.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Nsimba Webster:  The biggest lesson I will take away is sometimes you have to wait your turn.  Be patient and trust the process.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Nsimba Webster:  Growing up in the Bay Area, half of my family members liked the 49ers and half liked the Raiders.  My dad was a 49ers fan, and I was a fan of theirs.  I just enjoy the games now.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Nsimba Webster:  I admire watching Antonio Brown.  I watch his film.  I gain some knowledge from his route running.  We are about the same size.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a WR?

Nsimba Webster:  Confidence.  You have to have a game plan and just execute.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the defense?

Nsimba Webster:  I was a QB growing up.  I learned how to read coverages.  I see coverages and what defenses are trying to do.  Based on my route, I adjust to what they are doing and just execute the play.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Nsimba Webster:  WR Andrew Boston should have great career.  He will be a sophomore this year.  #58 LB Chris Ojoh is going into his junior year.  He might have an All-American season.  #3 QB Eric Barriere is a great dude.  He is a dynamic QB.  He can create a lot of noise.  He might be an All-American.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Nsimba Webster:  CB Darrien Molton was definitely a great defensive player.  #34 safety from Washington State (Jalen Thompson) will be a senior this year.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Nsimba Webster:  I have the passion for football.  The game is fun.  I fell in love with the sport.  I never get bored of it.  I love the game.

Alex Khvatov:  What makes you unique?

Nsimba Webster:  How encouraging I am.  I want to see people doing great things.  I can interact with anybody.  My personality is great.  I respect all people.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Nsimba Webster:  I am a big 2K player, Fortnite and Call of Duty.  My twin brother and I like to play chess.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Nsimba Webster:  I want to be an entrepreneur.  I want to open up a sports complex for the kids in the Bay Area.  We don’t have big facilities back at home.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Nsimba Webster:  Humble, passionate, energetic, wise and funny.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you have any visits or local pro days coming up?

Nsimba Webster:  I have a local pro day with the Raiders this Thursday.
