Alex Khvatov:  Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?

Austin Mitchell:  I ran track.  I also played basketball until my sophomore year.  I ran 100m, 200m, 4x100m, 4x400m and 400m.  I made it to regionals in 100m.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Austin Mitchell:  I had interest from Jackson State and Southern.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at Southeastern Louisiana?

Austin Mitchell:  Stephen F. Austin was offering me as a walk-on.  SE Louisiana also offered me as a walk-on.  I earned a scholarship my redshirt sophomore year.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall career?

Austin Mitchell:  Redshirt freshman year, I was fourth string in the beginning of camp.  Then I worked my way up to second string.  I was behind Juwan Dickey who was a good receiver for us.  Sophomore year, I ended up starting and earned my scholarship.  Junior year, I started again.  I made all-conference that year, and the team did well.  We lost in the second round of the playoffs.  We were close to winning the conference championship.  This past season, I was the leading receiver with eight TD’s on the team.  I had 896 receiving yards on 57 catches.

Alex Khvatov:  What are the team’s expectations this year?

Austin Mitchell:  Do better than what we did last year.  We want to get that ring and win the conference championship.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Austin Mitchell:  Speed and quickness.  I do well on posts and deep balls.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Austin Mitchell:  Improve on catches in traffic.  I also need to get more yards after the catch.  I need to work on my curl routes and digs.  I need to work on my short game more.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Austin Mitchell:  The last season as a whole.  Also during my redshirt freshman year, I scored three TD’s in a game on four catches and 150 yards.  As a redshirt sophomore, I had five catches for 183 yards and a TD.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?
