2023 Senior Bowl Scouting: OT Nick Saldiveri, Old Dominion

2023 Senior Bowl Scouting Notes: OT Nick Saldiveri, Old Dominion

Nick Saldiveri is a versatile tackle prospect who spent time at both right guard and right tackle last year at Old Dominion. His versatility will come in handy at the next level, but Saldiveri is a passionate player perpetually involved and focused on the game. His presence would be most welcome in an NFL locker room, and word on the street is that he’s a very coachable player. He should impress scouts with his interviews and should be considered a future starter.

Nick Saldiveri scouting notes

Pros:

  • Nick Saldiveri has very solid speed for the position and can be used effectively as a puller.
  • Good lateral quickness. Has very quick feet.
  • Very strong base. Flashes explosion during touchdown celebrations.
  • Good anchor. He plants well and gets his leverage.
  • Has solid hand placement off of the snap, and maintains it well through the rep.
  • Has good hand strength to deal with more extreme and intense rips.
  • Stout pass blocker.
  • Strong run blocker. Does a good job sealing run lanes.
  • Understands his assignments well. Picks up on stunts and other things with relative ease.
  • Very passionate, savvy football guy. Should do very well through the interview process.
  • He still has room to add to his frame and build his power.

Cons:

  • Sometimes doesn’t get the initial leverage that he wants dropping into his pass set; most often makes this mistake while playing guard.
  • I think it’s more because of the offense, but he doesn’t work into the second level often. I would like to see how well he performs in more of a gap scheme than a zone.
  • Old Dominion ran a heavy zone read/RPO offense which may hinder Saldiveri’s transition into a professional offense.
