Jarrett Patterson started for three years at center before ultimately moving to left guard in 2022, where he performed well overall. Patterson’s problem is that he has anchoring issues. His lower body is stout, but as he’s dropping into his anchor, he tends to struggle to use his upper body to control the defender and surrenders a lot of ground before he can recover. If this is something he can work through in the weight room, teams should be confident in his ability to hold up in the NFL.

Jarrett Patterson scouting notes
Pros:
- Decent speed. Moves decently well for his position group.
- Very stout lower body, and gets most of his work in driving.
- Has decent recovery, but surrenders a lot of ground doing that.
- Good hand placement for the most part. Does struggle when he gets a bad angle, which can be taken from him against gap defenders.
- Stout run blocker. Gets downhill well, holds the defender in place, wins with his leverage and lower body strength.
- Good, smart, and heady prospect.
Cons:
- Pulls short distances but I don’t think he can pull effectively to the edge.
- Doesn’t have a lot of upper body strength. Struggles to control his man.
- Struggles to get in his anchor from the center position. Struggles at the guard too – consistently surrenders a couple of steps when he engages in pass protection.
- Not a strong pass protector. Struggles to hold his own, surrenders a lot of ground.
