2023 Senior Bowl Scouting Notes: WR Trey Palmer, Nebraska

Trey Palmer has serious athletic ability and can stretch the field in various ways. Although he’s mostly been a slot receiver throughout his career, Palmer has the length and athletic ability to work from the boundary. Although he has the athletic ability, the size, and everything else, Palmer struggled badly over the last few years with drops. Because of that and the fact that he’s really just a speed receiver, Palmer may struggle to adjust to the NFL level and stick around an NFL roster.

Trey Palmer scouting notes

Pros:

  • Excellent speed. Palmer joined LSU’s track team and became a two sport collegiate athlete.
  • Incredibly explosive.
  • Does a great job creating separation through his breaks.
  • Ran a decent route tree. Mostly worked out of the slot.
  • Works the sideline well. Shows the ability to make catches and keep two feet inbounds consistently.
  • Solid hands for the most part.
  • Offers excellent deep ball ability from his spot. Real threat to go over the top.
  • Very strong runner after the catch. Was utilized as a running back even at times. Breaks tackles with ease and gets low to engage defenders.
  • Not a strong run blocker, but very capable. Consistency is average. Can get the job done but doesn’t always do it.

Cons:

  • Struggles to change direction at times.
  • Suffered tremendously from drops. Dropped 11 passes in 2022, 19 over his career on 177 targets.
  • He struggles to catch through contact consistently but has shown the ability to do it.
  • Not so creative after the catch.
