2023 Senior Bowl Scouting Notes: TE Davis Allen, Clemson

Davis Allen has all of the makings of a potential tight end two in the NFL, but still has some flaws to work out. He has great size, can be a suitable blocker, and a solid underneath receiver. However, coaches will need to work on Allen to sure up his blocking technique, getting downhill, and just overall being as consistent receiver. There are great tools to work with Allen, but a lot of question regarding him ever hitting his ceiling.

Davis Allen scouting notes

Pros:

  • Good upper body strength.
  • Not the greatest hands but they are suitable. Flashes a strong catch radius. Shows the ability to work the sideline a bit.
  • Offers some vertical ability.
  • Flashes the ability to make solid catches through contact. Not nearly consistent in this area.
  • Does work well to work past defenders to the second level to secure blocks.

Cons:

  • Overall a very average athlete.
  • Not particularly explosive.
  • Footwork is raw and underdeveloped. Doesn’t have a lot of control to sell releases or fakes very well.
  • Struggles with concentration drops.
  • Doesn’t show great strength when working against defenders.
  • Struggles to get set against faster and quicker defenders. So inconsistent with locking onto the defender.
