2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: OG TyKeem Doss, Southern Mississippi

TyKeem Doss has a huge body and has started games at both left tackle and left guard while in college, which should make him an intriguing option for teams. Teams may ask Doss to lose 20 pounds or so to play a bit lighter. Regardless, he has the ability to hold up at left guard against power which could make him a valuable PFA if he doesn’t hear his name called on Draft Day.

Projection: 6th/PFA

I think TyKeem Doss is still figuring himself out a good bit. He doesn’t have a lot of starting experience, and in his first couple of years at Southern Miss he was more of a swing guard/tackle. That being said, his upside is there because of his frame and the aspects of his game that he can clean up and become very solid at. His run blocking isn’t very impressive, and he struggles to inside counters.

Stayed healthy his entire career. Very well done.

TyKeem Doss’ scouting report

Athletic Ability (35)

Athleticism: 15

  • Speed (3/7) – Not very quick or fast. Might have to lose some weight to become more effective.
  • Lateral Quickness (4.5/8) – Lateral quickness is decent, not great.

Strength/Power: 20

  • Upper Body Strength (5.5/8) – Very good upper body strength.
  • Lower Body Strength (6.5/8) – Very solid lower body. Thighs are about as thick as two of mine together. Anchor base is solid.
  • Brute Power (3/4) – An absolute brute. Big, strong, and powerful.

Lineman Technique (55)

Anchor/Plant: 15

  • Anchor (5/8) – Has a good solid anchor. Sets well, settles into his drop with patience. Base is solid, holds himself very well. Can be susceptible to an outside counter.
  • Plant Recovery (3.5/7) – Tends to become too grabby when he’s losing the rep. Doesn’t show a lot of recoverability. Tends to panic as he loses.

Hand Usage: 10 –

  • Placement (2.5/4) – Can get a little bit wide with his hand placement. Overall tries to condense his hands and contain the defender.
  • Hand Strength (2/3) – Decent hand strength, certainly gets his hands where he wants them to go. Fighting off blocks and handling defenders might be harder.
  • Technique (2/3) – Has some solid technique with containing defenders and has the strength to pull it off, I’d like to see him do it more consistently against better pass rushers.

Pass Block: 15 –

  • Strength (6/8) – Good strength as a pass blocker. Sets well, handles power with power.
  • Technique (4.5/7) – Very patient in his drop. Might be a little susceptible to the inside counter where he can get caught holding.

Run Block: 15 –

  • Strength (4.5/8) – Average run strength at best. Doesn’t get downhill as well as he should.
  • Technique (3/7) – Doesn’t attack well as a blocker. Struggles to get the right positioning and stay level with defenders.

Persona (10)

Football IQ: 5 –

  • Understanding of Assignments (4/5) – Understands his assignments pretty well.

Overall: (69.5) – PFA
