2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Tim Democrat, Fordham

2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Tim Democrat, Fordham

Tim DeMorat has serious NFL interest going into his final collegiate season, estimated to be listed as a tryout prospect by all 32 NFL teams. DeMorat ran in a no-huddle team that allowed him to mask a lot of his deficiencies as a passer, and not develop important part of his game like his footwork. What that creates is a project – DeMorat is nothing more than a project at the next level despite his 46 career starts at Fordham.

Tim DeMorat

QB – Fordham Rams

HT: 6032
WT: 221
WING: 7558
ARM: 3128
HAND: 928
DOB: N/A
Year: Super Senior
High School: Viera (Merritt Island, FL)
HS Rating: N/A

Projected Draft Grade: Project QB3

Projection: UDFA

There is a lot of upside with DeMorat’s game, simply because he is a developmental project. DeMorat needs to improve his footwork – once he does that, he will be an immensely better prospect, but that’s a couple of years away because of the awful usage by his team. He will have some habits that he will need to iron out. The question really becomes whether DeMorat has time to get there or not.

Stayed healthy throughout his career.

Tim DeMorat’s scouting report

Quarterback Ability (65)

Arm Talent: 20

  • Arm Strength (5/10) – Can zip it within 25 yards, but anything beyond that is shaky. Struggles to drive the ball, arm strength will be well below average at the NFL level.
  • Touch Ability (2.5/5) – Doesn’t demonstrate much touch ability. Struggles to throw anything other than his normal throw.
  • Release (3.5/5) – Decently quick release. Above average. Just looks too controlled going through his mechanics, which makes him look too slow.

Accuracy/Placement: 25

  • Accuracy (8.5/15) – Accuracy isn’t ideal. Struggles to hit receivers in the right spot even in underneath routes. Sends them flying some direction to make a catch. Other times flashes a good feel for the play.
  • Placement/Vision (6.5/10) – Placement isn’t consistent at all. Flashed excellent feel for placement and timing in situations.

Pocket Presence: 10

  • Pocket Positioning (2/5) – Wasn’t really asked to run drops. Very primitive offense based on the no-huddle concept that didn’t have DeMorat do traditional drops.
  • Pocket Maneuverability (2.5/5) – Doesn’t have that natural feel for the pocket.

Footwork: 10

  • Consistency (2.5/5) – Interesting footwork. Has a tendency to try to throw off his back foot too much for my liking, like it’s a habit.
  • Quickness (2.5/5) – Average feet. Doesn’t really stand out with quickness.

Athleticism (20)

Mobility: 12

  • Outside of the pocket (4/7) – Capable athlete to move outside of the pocket. Can throw decently well on the move. Not great outside of the pocket but capable.
  • Downfield Ability (2/5) – Very limited runner. Won’t do anything more than scramble in a pinch.

Improvability: 8

  • Natural Improvability (1.5/4) – Doesn’t really want to be a playmaker. Won’t really improv but would rather force the ball downfield.
  • Play Extension (2/4) – Very little play extension ability. Isn’t comfortable moving outside of the pocket.

Intelligence (15)

Football IQ/Field Vision: 10

  • Football Intelligence (2.5/5) – Too hesitant and doesn’t trust his eyes. Seems too slow going through reads.
  • Ability to read pre-snap (2/5) – Ran a check with me system with the sideline which limits his ability to read pre-snap. Very much a developmental prospect.

Overall: (58.5) – UDFA
