2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: G O’Cyrus Torrence, Florida

O’Cyrus Torrence mostly played right guard for Louisiana, as a run mauler who could move the play into the second level. Transferred to Florida with head coach Billy Napier. Torrence is mostly a run blocker who is going to struggle to hold up in pass protection, limiting him to a right guard. He took the starting job at Louisiana in the second game of his freshman season as an injury replacement and never gave the job back.

Projection:

If O’Torrence can just work on his pass protection then he’s going to be a stud offensive lineman in the NFL. He’s got a lot to clean up, though. His hands could use work, his feet are a mess, and he has lean issues that impact his ability to lean. So there is massive upside to work with here.

O’Cyrus Torrence’s scouting report

Athletic Ability (35)

Athleticism: 15

  • Speed (3.5/7) – Too big to really have any speed, will be limited to power and not really be an effective puller.
  • Lateral Quickness (5.5/8) – Decent lateral quickness.

Strength/Power: 20

  • Upper Body Strength (6.5/7) – Excellent upper body strength. Has the strength to manhandle players.
  • Lower Body Strength (5/7) – Certainly shows solid explosion pretty often. Struggles in his anchor which has some to do with his lower body but I think it’s more of poor footwork causing the issues.
  • Brute Power (5.5/6) – An absolute brute. Manhandles defenders when working downhill.

Lineman Technique (55)

Anchor/Plant: 15

  • Anchor (5/8) – Has a solid anchor when he can win with his hands. Holds up well when he needs to. Consistency isn’t great.
  • Plant Recovery (4/7) – Gets grabby when he’s losing. Struggles to hold up properly. Can sometimes recover well but his feet are currently a mess.

Hand Usage: 10 –

  • Placement (2.5/4) – Hand placement is average. Struggles to work the defender properly and against power.
  • Hand Strength (2/3) – Hand strength looks good at times and looks weak at others. Very inconsistent.
  • Technique (2/3) – Gets his hands to decent place. Has several attacks that work well.

Pass Block: 15 –

  • Strength (5.5/8) – Very stout pass protector when he can position properly.  The key is getting him to position properly. Almost has to be in attacking mode to hold up.
  • Technique (4/7) – Angles and positioning sometimes isn’t great. Can lose his leverage trying to drop. Tends to lean too far which is what makes him susceptible.

Run Block: 15 –

  • Strength (7/8) – Very strong interior. Gets downhill very well. Can work up into the second level in the right circumstances.
  • Technique (7/7) – Solid attacking set. Very nice technique.

Persona (10)

Football IQ: 5 –

  • Understanding of Assignments (4/5) – Very smart player. Picks up stunts extremely well. Does a great job passing off defenders effectively.
