2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: LB Henry To’o To’o, Alabama

A transfer from Tennessee, Henry To’o To’o was a star for the Volunteers. He continued with his success at Alabama, playing for a National Championship in 2021 and showing improvement in how he reads the field. He’s not a big linebacker prospect, but he plays nasty and physical and can track plays down from across the field.

To me, there isn’t that much upside to his game. He could get a little bit stronger, I don’t know if he does because the Alabama program is good about building NFL body types quickly. He’s also still showing growth in reading plays and developing instincts, so there might be some room for improvement there.

Has stayed remarkably healthy throughout his career.

Henry To’o To’o’s scouting report

Athletic Ability (30)

Speed/Athleticism: 20

  • Speed (6/8) – Excellent speed. Very fluid athlete. Didn’t test as well as he typically looks on tape.
  • Lateral Quickness (5.5/7) – Decent lateral quickness. Can break off of it instantaneously.
  • Body Control (4.5/5) – Has good body control. Has no issues changing direction. Fluid hips and does a great job changing direction and attacking.

Strength/Power: 10

  • Upper Body Strength (2/3) – Decent upper body strength. Does a great job initiating contact and using his hands well enough to get off of the block and make the play on the ball carrier.
  • Lower Body Strength (2/3) – Shows good explosion and acceleration. Has room to grow and add to his frame.
  • Brute Power (2/4) – Not so much a brute but certainly provides a pop when he hits someone.

Defending Ability (40)

Tackling/Pursuit: 15

  • Tackling Ability (7.5/9) – Very strong tackler. Nasty, intense player. Would really like to see him wrap up better.
  • Pursuit Angles (5/6) – Pursuit angles are normally good. Can get caught sometimes slightly under pursuing but does a good job making adjustments as he pursues. Moves very well through traffic.

Blitz Ability: 5

  • Blitz Timing (3.5/5) – Not a great blitzer. Struggles to feel the gaps properly. Flashes some solid stunt work.

Coverage Ability: 20

  • Space Defending (8/10) – Good space defender. Doesn’t show any issues closing on a ball carrier. Keeps his leverage and can stretch plays effectively to the boundary.
  • Man Coverage (3/5) – Not great in man coverage, struggles to locate the football. Does have the athleticism to stay with running backs out of the backfield and limit the gain after catch.
  • Zone Coverage (3.5/5) – More than capable defender in zone coverage.  Just needs to get better depth more consistently.

Intel/Instincts (25)

Football IQ: 10

  • Play Recognition (4.5/5) – Very strong play recognition. Spends a lot of time in the film room and it shows on tape.
  • Understanding of Concepts (4/5) – Sometimes is slow to recognize things. Most of the time picks up on it quick. Was the leader of the defense last year.

Instincts: 15

  • Natural Instincts (7.5/10) – I just don’t see a lot of natural instincts from To’o To’o. Shows a ton of promise. Consistently in the right position.
  • Consistency (4/5) – Consistently just there. Isn’t really special, but just overall good. I think it’s from a lack of natural instincts, but his tape study makes up for it.

Overall: (80) – 2nd Round
