TE Nic Weishar (Notre Dame) Interview

Nic Weishar
Tight End
Notre Dame

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Nic Weishar:  I am 6’5 and 240lbs.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Nic Weishar:  I’m training at EFT in Highland Park, IL.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the 2019 Tropical Bowl.

Nic Weishar:  The Tropical Bowl was a great opportunity to showcase my talents and skills in front of NFL scouts and personnel.  It was a fun experience to compete against very talented guys from all over the country.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best player that you faced during the all-star game weekend?

Nic Weishar:  The toughest guy I played throughout the weekend was Bryson Allen-Williams from South Carolina.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will take away from the Tropical Bowl?

Nic Weishar:  The biggest thing I’ll take away from the Tropical Bowl is the fact that there are many guys fighting for that same roster I will be fighting for at the next level.  I have to do more than them to set myself apart.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in
you?

Nic Weishar:  Out of high school, I had over 25 offers.  I narrowed it down to a final five of Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Northwestern and Notre Dame.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Notre Dame?

Nic Weishar:  I chose Notre Dame because there is no better place to grow as a young man.  Notre Dame has a great tradition of winning championships and sending tight ends to the NFL.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Nic Weishar:  My strengths are my hands, physicality at the top of my routes, blocking ability and leadership qualities.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Nic Weishar:  I am always continuing to improve route running and technique.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Nic Weishar:  I would describe my career at ND as gritty and determined.  I came out of high school as the Illinois all-time career receptions leader.  When I came to Notre Dame, I was asked to take on more of a blocking role.  I excelled at this role all the while building on my strengths as a receiving tight end as well.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Nic Weishar:  The highlight of my career at ND was going 12-0 and making the college football playoff.  Obviously, it would have been great to win the Cotton Bowl against Clemson, but we accomplished something not many teams have done in Notre Dame history.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Nic Weishar:  My biggest accomplishment at Notre Dame was being selected as captain of the AFCA All-State Good Works team.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Nic Weishar:  The most important thing I have learned from my coaching staff was that every championship team must have the traits of attention to detail, grit, smarts, laser focus and attitude.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Nic Weishar:   Favorite NFL player is Travis Kelce.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a TE?

Nic Weishar:  The most important trait for a TE is versatility.  A TE has to be able to do a lot of different things.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the defense?

Nic Weishar:  Some pre-snap tendencies I look for are the DE’s alignment, LB/safety blitz demeanors and safety rotations.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next
season?

Nic Weishar:  Should keep an eye on OT Liam Eichenberg and WR Kevin Austin next season.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Nic Weishar:  Toughest player I have played was Shaq Lawson from Clemson.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Nic Weishar:  I enjoy the physicality and tenacity of football.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Nic Weishar:  My definition of a leader is someone that brings others to a place they couldn’t have reached by themselves.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Nic Weishar:  My hobbies include hanging out with friends and family and watching sports.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Nic Weishar:  I am not yet sure what I want to do post football career.  I will probably do something in the business/finance realm.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Nic Weishar:  Grit, resolve, toughness, leader and determination.
